Newly-formed Nonprofit Works to Promote Adoption

Amanda and Craig Williams always wanted a family. But after several miscarriages, the couple decided to pursue adoption rather than infertility treatments.

Searching on the Internet, Amanda Williams found the Adoption Rocks Inc. Web site, which lists adoption agencies and lawyers. Through the site, she contacted attorney Donna Ames, president of Adoption Rocks, who assisted her through the adoption process.

“Donna suggested that I let my family, friends and church members get involved while going through this special part of our life¤…¤and she was right. To have all that support really makes a difference when adopting,” Williams said.

The Williamses are now the parents of a 2-year-old son, Drennen. “A day does not go by that I do not think about my son’s birth mother and say a prayer of thanks for what she did for our son and family,” Williams said.

The stay-at-home mom is now searching for a second birth mother in hopes of arranging an open adoption.

“I knew a little about the adoption process through the adoption of our first son,” Williams said. “What I did not know was how to adopt without the expense of using a private agency. I found that Adoption Rocks not only provided assistance to birthmothers, but also gave an affordable way for couples to adopt.”

Adoption Rocks, a nonprofit, was formed two years ago by a group of civic leaders, adoptive parents and professionals who each had a strong concern about babies being born to single mothers and decreasing rates of infant adoptions.
